Launched: 2008
Focus: To provide children in rural areas better education, opportunities and overall development.
The rural project was launched soon after SMILE realised that the youth of these areas have a lot of potential but lack the basics of educational facilities, opportunities and exposure. Schools were not well-equipped and many amenities were not available.
SMILE has intervened in different villages across Maharashtra and Gujarat, and after conducting surveys, helped to provide them with basic facilities and equipment. In some areas, SMILE’s involvement has included upgrading the School, library and Science lab and sponsoring the education of the children. Volunteers and experts have also interacted with the students and their parents, as well as conducted counselling sessions where necessary.
From its early beginnings with one school in Panvel, SMILE’s rural project now covers nine schools across Maharashtra and Gujarat.
